What Is the Precious Metal Lifecycle?
Our precious metal lifecycle is a four-stage, closed-loop process that keeps platinum, gold, palladium, silver and other precious metals in continuous use rather than sitting idle or being scrapped at a discount elsewhere. The four stages are:
1. Reuse
Your platinum crucibles, dishes, wire and other labware stay in active service for as long as they perform reliably — often for many years of repeated high-temperature analysis, fusion, or evaporation work.
2. Send Used Product
Once an item reaches the end of its working life — deformed, cracked, or simply due for replacement — it’s sent to Birmingham Metal rather than discarded or scrapped through a third party.
3. Refine
The returned material is refined and its precious metal value is established, using calibrated weighing and metal analysis to determine an accurate, fair yield.
4. Manufacture
That established value is credited directly towards your new order, and we manufacture your replacement platinum crucibles, dishes, wire, or evaporation material to your exact specification — completing the loop.
